...there was a man, DH to be exact,(who we shall call Lee Quiltmaker), who was pretty much just another quilter's hubby. I think you know the type -- goes to all the quilt shows with the Mrs.; drives the Mrs. to quilt shops; carries bolts to the cutting tables; and even visits the quilt shops on his own for the occasional perfect gift -- yes, the gift card!
In August, Lee Quiltmaker heard the deep, dark voice saying: "Lee, come to the quilt side". Lee Quiltmaker, in fact, did just that. He signed up for a Photo Mosaic class at my LQS.
This past weekend, armed with MY cutting mat, ruler, rotary cutter, and fabrics, Lee Quiltmaker began his journey into the world of cutting teeny tiny squares. It was a square war he would win. I have the pic to prove it, too. A quilt photo mosaic pic!
Photo Mosaic is a class based on Tammy Bowser's software program, Quilted Photo Express. Scan a photo in, give it some parameters, and it generates a numbered grid that you use as a guide for placing your fabric squares. I compare it too putting together a jigsaw puzzle....sort of.
After working on this project all weekend, DH finally fused down the last square on Monday night. He is amazed at how well he is able to distinguish his photo subjects, our Pomeranians Boomer and Spunky. He is very proud of his work and so am I. I have the honor of doing the quilting and we have decided we will put down a layer of tulle to give it some extra depth and assure that the fused raw edges are not disturbed. Wish me luck on that one!
Drum roll please..................................................
Here is the original photograph used:

And the fabric mosaic:

Pretty cool, right?
As far as Lee Quiltmaker is concerned, this will probably be his only venture to the "quilt side"...lol He did enjoy this process very much and would even consider doing another one, but he'll leave the more traditional quiltmaking to me. Phew! Thank goodness for that. The thought of having to share my fabric stash...not even gonna go there!

What a cool process and outcome. But it looks like LOTS and LOTS of teeny tiny squares!! Kudos to your hubby for trying his hand at quilt-making!
I am so impressed! Your hubs did a great job. Love your post!
