Finally, an Update

I'm finally popping in to update my poor neglected blog. I must admit that although I still visit my blog to stay current on what some of my favorite bloggers are doing, I haven't much wanted to update my own blog. Sad, I know.

Much has happened in the time I've been away. My DH retired from the Navy and is now officially a civilian (with a job, thank goodness!). That in itself has been an adjustment for us, in a positive way.

A vacation was next, taking the scenic route from Maryland to Los Angeles, CA (via car) to visit my family. My heart yearned to see my kids and my grandchildren, not to mention my parents and sisters. It did me good to see them all. While there, we took a day to visit Disneyland to celebrate my granddaughter's 3rd birthday. She was just thrilled and I got so much joy from watching her eyes light up when she met Mickey Mouse.

It was very, very difficult to say goodbye this time around. Even as I write this, I can feel tears welling up in my eyes. I didn't want to leave my kids. I didn't want to leave my grandkids, especially my little granddaughter. How does one explain to a child her age that one must go home? If only there were a way to bring all my loved ones to the East Coast then life would be complete. How selfish I must sound...like they are all suppose to quit their jobs/school, leave their friends, and homes just to come be with me. I can dream, can't I?

The ride back to Maryland was rough the first day or so. I cried most of that first morning, and by the end of the first day I was tired of crossing the desert. I knew driving through Texas the next day was not going to happen (it did, though)!

Four days after leaving California we arrived back home. My ears weren't humming and I didn't feel the steady vibration of the road anymore! Next time, we fly!! (maybe)

I've been slow trying to pick up sewing again, especially with the heat, but I have managed to finish 2 tops for class samples this fall. I made a new "One Block Wonder" and tried my hand at some off-centered log cabins.

I'm looking forward to fall...cooler temps, beautiful colors, chilly evenings, and Retreat! I'll be teaching again at Rose Hahn's Quilt Weekend at the Roxbury Holiness Center in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; a whole weekend of quilting comraderie.

Glad I dropped in to update. Hope I don't stay away so long this time...lol

Happy stitching!
